No – no its not JavaBeans or NetBeans!! Its the funny Mr. Bean aka Rowan Atkinson
He is the lovable self-centered character everybody loves to watch – from kids to grown up kids.
Rowan Atkinson was born on 12th December 1955. An electrical engineer with degrees from Newcastle and oxford universities got widespread attention when he became the founder member of not nine o Clock news for BBC.
In 1981, Rowan became the youngest performer to have a one-man show in London’s West End. This won him the West End’s award for Comedy performance of the year.
The Bean character was the creation of Rowan and his comedy partner Richard Curtis in 1976 when they met at Oxford. It was only in 1989 the name Mr. Bean was christened.
Mr. Bean has a unique way of approaching every day problems in a round about way 🙂
He is so popular with kids, grown-ups and family in general. He is a man of few words and his humor is universally popular. The fact that Mr. Bean series has been sold out to 245 territories worldwide is a small point towards its popularity.
In 2002, this character was made into a animated strip. Rowan has himself provided the voice and enacted it in front of the cartoon creators so that they could capture the essence of Mr. bean – what a man!
Following on from the original TV series, Rowan went on to star in his very own feature film: Bean – The ultimate disaster movie.
I was once so personally involved in watching the antics in the Singapore Immigration counter for a VISA, could not even hear my number or name being called out !!
The Pogo channel had gone bananas both in 2006 and 2007 dedicating January 26th as “bean republic”
3 cheers to Mr Bean – our own common man.
